Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something!

If you have attended Conference in the past, then you may have realized that it’s a great event because there is always somebody that takes care of every detail. On behalf of the Board of Governors of the Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia, I am pleased to announce that Gordon Ruth, BA, FCGA, has been appointed as our new Executive Director. Gordon has occupied several roles in the public sector ranging from the federal government to BC Hydro. In addition, he spent some 15 years with the Greater Vancouver Regional District (now Metro Vancouver) where he became the Chief Financial Officer and helped steward the financial affairs of this regional federation of 22 member municipalities and one electoral district.  Read more.

October 15, 2010 is our next Burnaby/Royal City Chapter Student Night Event.

October 23, 2010 is the Ethics PD seminar with Chuck Campbell presenting.

November 20, 2010 is “Investing and Doing Business in the USA” seminar with Rob Gilfillan presenting.

January 15, 2011 will be the Tax Seminar – T1 in the morning and T2 in the afternoon, with Don Nilson presenting.

February 19, 2011 will be an Excel Workshop with Richard Jang presenting.

March 12, 2011 will be “GAAP for Private Enterprises” presented by Stephen Spector.

April 16, 2011 – “Building a High Performance Finance Team” with Monica Murray presenting.

May 14, 2011 – Leadership with Ray Bertani presenting.

We will post further details on the above PD seminars as we get them, and links for registration will be available closer to the date of the seminar. It was an overwhelming success, as we had over 95 people registered (mainly CGA students and a few members.)  It was a great night for students to network with one another after their exams. 

C.Y. Tay, our Chapter Liaison Governor, was able to join us and gave a brief update about our CGA-BC Association.  We also had several speakers who discussed industry, government and the current accounting market.

On September 11, 2010 join us at a BC Lions Game as BC trounces Toronto. Watch for more details – this will be a “must see” event!

On June 18, 2011 – we have a chapter social event planned – watch for more details!
