CGA-BC Richmond / South Delta Chapter PD Seminar

Excel Workshop - Macro Training

Date: Saturday, May 25, 2013

Time: Registration & Breakfast: 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
Seminar: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Location: Executive Airport Plaza Hotel, Fraser Room, 7311 Westminster Hwy, Richmond

4 CPD Hours

Cost: Members $80, Non-members $100

Microsoft Excel is a powerful tool to use for managing your business. But this often requires tedious, repetitive and time consuming work to get the results you need. The macro or VBA feature is a powerful tool that can help you automate your work. In this seminar, you will gain hands-on experience creating your own macros. Some of the work we will be doing includes:

1. Create macros to improve productivity at the office by automating routine tasks. Some of the examples would include automatically printing all the worksheets in a workbook, searching and replacing text across all worksheets, manipulating data to create custom reports.

2. Using macros to extract data from a database such as MS Access to create reports and interactive dashboards with Pivot Tables.

3. Automatically consolidate data from multiple workbooks for reporting with the push of a button.

4. Creating custom User Forms to accept, display and validate data that users enter into Excel.

Prerequisites:

You should have an Intermediate level of knowledge in using Microsoft Excel.

Please bring a laptop with Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 already installed.

A week or two prior to the seminar, a tutorial will be emailed out for participants to work on. This will probably take 1-2 hours to complete.

Speaker: Richard Jang, BCom,DipIT, MCP, CGA

Richard Jang has been providing software and computer networking support to international and North American clients for over 10 years. He has also presented many technical sessions on these topics at corporate conferences in the U.S. and overseas. He is the Director of Technical Services with Sage Software.

Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay (For the Kids)—

June 16 and 17 at Swangard Stadium

Last year the CGA Running Team was again tops in the Accounting and Finance Division, for most dollars raised and for most miles run. Now, in 2012, we are poised to break the $225,000 fundraising mark.

Money raised goes to the BC’s Easter Seal Camps to help kids with special needs enjoy specially equipped and staffed Easter Seal camps.

Funding also goes to:

§ Easter Seals houses in Victoria, Vancouver and Prince George

§ Easter Seals bus transportation in communities all over B.C.

§ Patient care grants for therapeutic equipment, prosthetics, transportation and accommodation

§ Bursaries and scholarships for students with disabilities.

Last year the Relay raised $1,000,048 to accomplish this. See the 24HourRelay for great pictures, videos, and to donate online to our team.

Will you join us this year?

The weekend will be a tremendously rewarding and fun experience. When you see the smiles on the kids you’ll be glad you did!

Richmond/South Delta CGA Chapter - Annual Chapter Event

Posted by lgao - June 7, 2011 (0) Comment

Date:                           Friday, June 24, 2011
Time:                           5:30PM – 8:30PM
Registration:            5:00PM – 5:30PM
Location:                    Best Western Abercorn Inn, 9260 Bridgeport Road, Richmond, BC  V6X 1S1

Richmond/South Delta CGA-BC Chapter - Annual Chapter Event

Light refreshments will be provided.  This event is free for all CGA-BC members and students; email registration required.

Richmond/South Delta CGA-BC Chapter invites all CGA-BC students and members to attend our first Annual Chapter Event on June 24, 2011.  The focus of the event is on the history of our Chapter and recognition of the part all chapters play in making CGA-BC what it is today – the largest and fastest-growing accounting designation in the province.  Come and meet Bruce Hurst, FCGA, 2011 Chair of the Board of Governors of CGA-BC, past members of Richmond/South Delta Chapter Board and members of CGA-BC staff.

“The Ten Commandments of a True Professional”, an 1-hour presentation by Don Nilson, FCMA, will form a part of the event.  The presentation addresses ten habits of a consummate professional, which don’t appear in regular ethics courses.  These habits cross-fertilize lessons from philosophers, stock brokers, religious leaders, mathematicians, actors, accountants… and even a cartoon character.

There will be door prizes, and the biggest prize is a PD Certificate that entitles a lucky winner to attend one full-day or two half-day seminars at CGA-BC’s 2011 Annual Conference in Victoria (approximate value - $424.)

To register, please email cgarichmondsouthdelta@yahoo.ca and let us know your first and last name, address, phone number, and CGA-BC ID number.
