OVERVIEW
A panel of senior executives from the Office of the Auditor General will discuss adding value to your organization through financial, performance and information technology audits. The panel will speak about control environments, risk management, governance practices in the performance audit environment, and other matters.
ABOUT THE PANELLISTS
Ø Malcolm Gaston leads the Office’s work on governance, public accountability, justice and public safety, alternative service delivery, and social services. He has presented to conferences, particularly on the areas of performance management and reporting, and good governance practices. Malcolm Gaston joined the Office in 2005 and led the development and delivery of shorter, focused performance audits, and good practice guidance.
Before moving to Victoria, Malcolm was with Audit Scotland developing and delivering Best Value performance audit of local government. He started his career with the UK National Audit Office. Malcolm holds both Canadian and UK accounting designations, as well as an MA in psychology from the University of Glasgow. He has worked for two of the ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms, delivering external audit, internal audit and advisory services to a wide range of public sector clients. Malcolm also has considerable strategic and financial management experience from his years as Chief Finance Officer of a Scottish Crown agency.
Ø Cornell Dover leads the Office’s work on IT Audit and Support portfolio.
Before joining the Office of the Auditor General of B.C. in 2011, Cornell spent 18 years with the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta. Cornell is a Chartered Accountant and holds CISA, CGEIT, CRISC and CISSP designations. He has 13 years’ experience as an IT auditor, including ITGC and application control reviews, performance audits, performance measure reviews and CAATS in several ministries, Crown corporations, boards, commissions, universities and colleges.
Cornell is the Past President of ISACA Edmonton, Treasurer of the Alberta Cerebral Palsy Sports Association and running coach for Runners with Attitude Trail Running Club.
Ø Jason Reid is an Executive Director, Financial Audit, responsible for financial statement audits of government ministries and a number of government entities focused primarily in the education and post secondary sector. He is also responsible for planning and overseeing financial management and control reviews, budgeting, planning future audit coverage levels and office resource allocation.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Calgary and is a Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining the office he worked with two different international accounting firms for six years in total providing financial audit and financial and tax advisory services. In addition to his work with the office, he is a member of the Practice Review & Licensing Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia.
